NUTRITION 21 RECEIVES LISTING NOTIFICATION FROM NASDAQ

PURCHASE, N.Y., July 13 2004--Nutrition 21, Inc. (NASDAQ: NXXI) today announced that NASDAQ notified the Company that if by January 3, 2005, the bid price of its common stock does not close at $1.00 per share or more for a minimum of 10 consecutive trading days, the Company may be subject to delisting.  If the Company is not in compliance with the bid price requirement by  January 3, 2005, NASDAQ may give the Company an additional period to achieve compliance by a reverse split of its common stock.
